A serious game, customized

From book wisdom to practice integration

About the client

The Open University is a non-traditional university that stands for activating academic distance education, with great flexibility for students and attention to innovative teaching.

An interactive game in which theory becomes tangible in real-life cases

Challenge

The Open University was looking for a way to make the complex theories of occupational psychology more accessible and understandable to its students. The challenge was to transform abstract academic concepts into a practical and interactive format that not only engages students but also promotes their understanding and application of the subject.

Our approach

We created scenarios to apply theoretical concepts from the textbook through interactive situations. After all, practice is more complex than theory makes it seem, and concepts are rarely unambiguous. Therefore, we developed a scenario-based game that allows students to perfect themselves in practical situations through simple, as well as complex HR situations. We worked this approach, in collaboration with Ijsfontein – a leading creative agency based in Amsterdam – , into an interactive game format.

Results

An interactive serious game for students where they could – in different levels of complexity – playfully apply theory through interventions in real-life situations.

“The communication clear and constructive, which made the project smooth and successful.”
